Where do I start? So many things have happened in the last 2.5ish past months. First, I missed my blog dearly but I needed to step back as I learned to take care of another human. My toddler boy is now two and into EVERYTHING. My 2.5 month old is so very needy, but what newborn isn’t? That being said, I have been in the midst of creating new routines around here.
Our days look quite a bit differently these days with the addition of Lily. We rarely leave the house when it’s just me around as it is so exhausting hauling two kids in and out of the car! Therefore, we stay in most days. If you know me, I need to get out and about in order to not go stir crazy and to feel like a human being! However, when I started creating simple routines in my everyday life I began to feel like myself again. My makeup routine was not something I was willing to give up. Seriously, if I don’t “get ready” for the day, I feel like a big blob and I am super unproductive. I feel super icky and bleh. Putting just a 5 minute effort into my appearance in the mid-morning makes me feel like a woman! Of course these 5 minutes do require a little sacrifice with a toddler but it is totally worth it.
Enter my new favorite brand; Beautycounter. No, I am not sponsored and I am not a consultant. I am just a die hard fan of these products sharing the goodness with you all. When I had Lily a mama bear was released and I researched every product I was using in my house. I was awakened to the idea that dangerous and toxic chemicals were being placed in household cleaners and body products. Now some may think I went a little crazy (ahem my husband), but all that mattered was our health.
I started to replace everything in the house that had ingredients such as formaldehyde, ammonia, Parabens, Carbon black, and fragrance. My make-up was slowly replaced by non-toxic, safe products that I could wear worry-free. I don’t have to worry about kissing my kids or snuggling next to them. Heck, I even feel safe having Lily wear my make-up once she gets a bit older. It feels good to have products that work and are not putting me at a health risk. Okay, so maybe you think I am some crazy lady and I get that. I would have thought I was crazy last year at this time. However, look up the beauty industry and what’s in the makeup products and you might want to make a switch too. Read the article below!
Okay so on with my make-up routine. You have 5 minutes to make yourself look presentable, what do you do? The products below are all that I use at the moment. A little foundation, concealer, and mascara go a long way.
Step 1: Moisturize! I use the Countercontrol Matte Effect Gel Cream. It is Oil-Free for my acne prone skin and helps my foundation and concealer go on seamlessly.
Step 2: I rub a very thin layer of my Tint Skin Hydrating Foundation onto my face. Sometimes I use a brush and other times I rub it on like a moisturizer (because I am super lazy and obviously not a make-up artist.) This Foundation works really well with my oily skin and leaves it feeling matte all day long (even after a workout.)
Step 3: I take my Touchup Skin Concealer Pen and apply under my eyes and down the front of my nose. This stuff is magic! It brightens up my eyes and hides any baggage I may have. Just a little bit makes a huge difference. I use the shade light.
Step 4: I apply a small bit of the Color Outline Eye Pencil (in navy) under my eyes. If you have blue eyes, I highly recommend a navy eyeliner!
Step 5: I swipe on a couple coats of the Volumizing Mascara. I love this mascara because it works just as well as my previous mascaras and doesn’t contain carbon black (used to make tires, eww.)
Step 6: I brush on my all time favorite Beautycounter product (the Brilliant Brow Gel). This stuff works miracles on your brows. It never flakes and it makes perfect eyebrows possible in 10 seconds with the brush applicator. I use the shade Light.
Step 7: I apply a thin layer of the Lip Conditioner in peppermint. It makes my lips so moisturized and refreshed with the peppermint scent. For me changing up my lip products was one of the most important. Knowing that I wasn’t swallowing nasty chemicals/dyes with my other chapsticks and lipsticks was a relief.
Step 8: I apply another thin layer of my Sheer Lipstick in pearl. This gives my lips a sheer shimmer and it smells of warm vanilla. I am currently waiting for an order of a pigmented lipstick but I love my sheer shimmer!
There you go! I feel so put together after just 5 minutes of self care. This routine has made me a better mama and wife (I actually put away the dishes sometimes haha.) I hope you enjoyed! Stay tuned for my skin care routine.
