It is about time to share my wisdom and experience with you on fall/winter pregnancies and what you NEED in your closet. This is my second pregnancy in the colder months (and no, totally didn’t plan it that way!) and I have learned so much. There are many pieces that I bought and never wore or pieces that I bought and literally never wanted to take off my body. Winter is actually an amazing time to be pregnant because you can wrap your bump in all the cozy clothes and layers. Leggings are probably the best invention ever for pregnancies as well. Let’s get started!
The First and Second Trimesters:
I have to argue that what you wear on your lower half is so crucial to comfort and staying sane. Thankfully fall/winter allow for cozy leggings and well leggings. At almost 37 weeks pregnant I can tell you that putting on anything besides leggings is horrendous. I cry when I put on jeans however if you find the right pair of maternity jeans…that’s another story. Thankfully I found some pairs that worked great for different points in my pregnancy.
For the first and second trimesters, I definitely suggest actual maternity jeans. I loved these full belly panel jeans from Shop Pink Blush Maternity. They were stylish, had a bit of stretch, and stayed on comfortably. I would recommend going with the waist size you were right before pregnancy. Too small or too big will leave them falling down and downright uncomfortable.
Now what if I told you that there were maternity jeggings. They exist and they are wonderful! I wanted to feel put together but not have the discomfort of regular jeans and I found the best pants ever. These jeggings from Old Navy have a lower belly panel and feel like leggings. They even have belt hole loops if they fall down a bit. I went with my regular pre-pregnacy size and they are so comfy! I bought a pair in the black and the light wash.
The Third Trimester:
Transitioning into the third trimester, you want as much comfort as possible. I personally do not like the high waisted belly pants in the third trimester as they tend to fall down. I opt for the low belly panel maternity jeggings and leggings! In all honesty, regular leggings will fit just fine during pregnancy and there really is not much need to spend a ton on maternity leggings (unless they are the ones I suggest below.) These Aerie leggings were a huge bonus as I found them in storage and didn’t think they would fit me during pregnancy. Turns out these fleece lined performance leggings were the most comfortable pants I have ever put on. Aerie has some amazing leggings and these fit just below my belly. They have so much stretch and they are so flattering. These maroon colored ones worked great with my black sweatshirts and black sneakers.
Another pair of leggings that I adore (I actually wore them 3 days straight – don’t worry, I washed them) are my LulaRoe black leggings. Consultants say that these leggings feel like butter on your legs and they aren’t kidding. They are so soft, stretch, and fit comfortably below my belly. I love black leggings as they can go with almost everything and they are super flattering.
I have heard that the Lululemon Align pant is also amazing during pregnancy/postpartum and I really loved my Target brand high waisted leggings as well. These leggings stay put and do not fall down like traditional belly panel maternity pants. They give extra support over the belly and are super flattering as well. You can click on any of the pictures above to get to the actual pair of pants that I am wearing. Below I listed some of my other favorites.
